Captain Austin P Byrne was born in 1920 in Long Island, Queens County, New York and served with the 492nd Bomber Group, Heavy as a command pilot.

Austin died August 6, 1944, and is listed as MIA. He is buried at American War Cemetery Margraten.

He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Purple Heart.
