Early aviation enthusiest, radio station manager, Army Air Forces Officer during WW II during which he rose to the rank of Brigader General.
Life was not without scandal. From his obtaining an army commission as a captain in the Army Air Corps, while his father was the sitting president. He was also investigated for financial irregularities regarding government contracts for the building of military aircraft, securities fraud, and suspected connections to organized crime. He was never prosecuted.
He was married 5 times to socialites and starlets of Hollywood; Elizabeth Browning Donner, Ruth Josephine Googins, Faye Margaret Emerson, Minnewa Bell, and Patricia Peabody.
