Watterson

US Congressman, Journalist. Served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, first as an aide to Generals Nathan B. Forrest and Leonidas Polk, then as Chief of Scouts for General Joseph E. Johntson's Army of Tennessee. After the war he became the editor of the Louisville, Kentucky newspaper "The Courier-Journal", a post he would hold for 50 years. He was elected to represent Kentucky's 5th District on the United States House of Representatives to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Congressman Edward Parsons, serving from 1876 to 1877. He was the son of Tennessee Congressman Harvey M. Watterson, and the nephew of United States Supreme Court Justice Stanley Matthews
